πŸŒ™ Ritual Herbal Moon Baths

Sacred Self-Care Aligned with Lunar Cycles

Have you ever noticed how your moods shift with the moon?

Perhaps you sleep lightly on a full moon, or feel introspective as the night sky turns dark with the new moon.

This is no coincidence β€” the moon governs the tides of the oceans, and as human beings, we are just as tidal.

Our bodies are around 70% water, and just as her gravitational pull stirs the seas into greater ebb and flow, it also stirs the subtle waters within us.

This is why many people feel more emotional, restless, or tender at the new and full moons.

The moon is drawing on our inner tides, urging us to release, renew, and realign.

One of the most beautiful ways to work with this rhythm is through a ritual moon bath β€” turning an ordinary soak into a sacred ceremony that honours your body, spirit, and the cycles of nature.

πŸŒ• Lunar Release Blend (Full Moon) β€” Expansion, Illumination, Release

The full moon is a time of brightness and revelation, when everything comes to a peak. Just as the ocean tides swell higher under her pull, we too may feel full of energy, emotions, or restlessness. This is the perfect moment to let go of what no longer serves you.

Ingredients

  • Β½ cup Himalayan salt (detoxifying and mineral-rich, grounding your body as you release)

  • Β½ cup Epsom salt (magnesium-rich, easing tension and restlessness)

  • A handful of dried lavender, rose, and chamomile infused in 1–2 litres of boiled water (soothing the heart, calming the nervous system, and opening to beauty)

  • 5 drops clary sage essential oil (deeply clarifying, supportive of release and transition)

  • Optional: a sprinkle of fresh rose petals

Why these plants?
Clary sage and lavender ease the mind into surrender, chamomile softens grief, and rose lifts the heart. Together, they create a bath that feels like laying your burdens into the hands of the moon.

Method

  1. Make a strong infusion of the herbs by pouring boiling water over them and steeping for 10 minutes. Strain and pour the liquid into your bath.

  2. Add salts and essential oils.

  3. Light a candle and set an intention for what you are ready to release. As you soak, imagine the moonlight drawing heaviness out of your body. When you drain the bath, visualise those old stories flowing away with the water.

πŸŒ‘ Dreaming Waters (New Moon) β€” Renewal, Planting Seeds, New Beginnings

The new moon is a dark, fertile void β€” the womb of the night sky where seeds are planted and new dreams take root. It is a time for rest, visioning, and setting intentions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dead Sea salt (deeply mineralising, replenishing skin and spirit)

  • A handful of dried mugwort, chamomile, and lemon balm (mugwort for dreamwork and visioning, chamomile to soothe, lemon balm for uplifting the heart)

  • 3 drops neroli essential oil (joy, rebirth, and inner child lightness β€” or petitgrain/mandarin for a gentler alternative)

  • A splash of orange blossom hydrosol (sweetness and inspiration)

Why these plants?
Mugwort has long been linked with the moon and dreamtime journeys, while lemon balm and chamomile soothe the heart, helping you vision from a place of peace. Neroli awakens joy and tenderness for the cycle ahead.

Method

  1. Steep the herbs in boiled water for 10 minutes, then strain into your bath.

  2. Add the Dead Sea salt, hydrosol, and oils.

  3. As you soak, whisper your intentions into the water, trusting that it will carry your prayers through every cell of your body. Afterwards, journal or meditate to anchor your visions.

✨ Goddess Glow (Any Moon Phase) β€” Radiance, Balance, Self-Love

Not every bath needs to be tied strictly to new or full moon energy. Sometimes we simply need to restore our inner radiance, reconnect with self-love, and glow with the quiet light of our own being.

Ingredients

  • Β½ cup Himalayan salt (grounding, cleansing)

  • Β½ cup Dead Sea salt (nourishing, replenishing)

  • A handful of calendula and jasmine flowers (calendula for skin and solar joy, jasmine for sensuality and spirit)

  • 2 drops rose essential oil + 2 drops geranium essential oil (both heart-opening, harmonising, and deeply feminine)

  • A moonstone or amethyst crystal placed in the water or nearby

Why these plants?
Rose and geranium work beautifully together to soothe the heart and uplift the soul, while calendula glows with sun medicine and jasmine brings a touch of lunar mystery. The blend restores radiance at any phase of life or moon.

Method

  1. Blend salts and scatter flowers into your bathwater.

  2. Add essential oils and place your chosen crystal nearby.

  3. As you soak, place a hand over your heart and breathe in self-love, exhaling gratitude with every sigh.

🌸 Ceremonial Touches

  • Flowers & Crystals: Float blossoms or place crystals around the tub β€” amethyst (intuition), rose quartz (compassion), or moonstone (cycles and feminine wisdom).

  • Invocation: Speak a simple prayer to activate the waters:  β€œSacred waters, cleanse me, bless me, carry away what no longer serves, and return me renewed.”

  • Gratitude: Thank the plants, salts, and the moon herself, remembering that every drop connects you to rivers, rains, and oceans across the Earth.

🌌 Mythic Layer

Across cultures, the moon has always been seen as a goddess of cycles and tides. To the Greeks, she was Selene; to the Romans, Luna. In India, Chandra glows with soma’s nectar, while among the Maya, Ix Chel presided over women, waters, and weaving.

When you step into a moon bath, you are joining this timeless lineage β€” letting the goddess of tides bathe not only your skin, but also your spirit

πŸŒ™ Closing Thoughts

A ritual moon bath is more than self-care β€” it is ceremony. It is remembering that you are not separate from nature but a wave in her vast ocean, carried by the same tides that move the seas.

If your soul longs for deeper ways to live in rhythm with the moon, you are warmly invited to join me in ceremony β€” whether through cacao, gong journeys, or our year-long training, The Shaman’s Way. Together we honour the cycles of nature, the wisdom of plants, and the healing power of ritual.
