🍸 Mocktails With Meaning – My Plant-Based Potion Guide
I used to love a good cocktail, I loved the ritual of making them, the infusion of so many flavours, sharing and celebrating with friends and lovers, a momentary, and significant mood shift. But over time, alcohol stopped feeling good in my body. The buzz wasn’t worth the aftermath, and I found myself longing for the emotional lift and the delicious drink experiences, without the fog that followed.
That’s when I began experimenting with mocktails powered by herbs, and I developed my own little medicinal mocktail range inspired by the 7 chakras. Each blend is designed not just to taste good, but to feel good. Offering a subtle energetic shift using plant power, bubbles, playful garnishes and a touch of magical mixological intention.
🌱 Why Herbs?
Herbs have long been allies in emotional and spiritual wellness. We add them to our cocktails, perhaps without realising that the way they enhance the drink is not just by flavouring. With a clever choice of herbs, a little simple syrup, ice and some sparkling water, I’ve crafted herbal mocktails that feel like a reset button for body and soul. They’re vibrant, beautiful, and functional, and there is no hangover required. They can be drunk alone, perhaps when you crave a mental shift after a hard day’s work. But you’ll probably agree they are more fun when shared with friends and loved ones. I encourage you to enjoy the ritual, dress up and dress the mocktails up too, tiny umbrellas and edible glitter all add to the fun, whether you are wearing them, or putting it in the drinks!

Each recipe is built with:
A store-bought syrup, cordial, or concentrate
Sparkling water (or soda water, tonic, or kombucha)
Optional garnish for beauty and vibe
🔴 Root Chakra – Cinnamon & Hibiscus
Calling in confident strength
The Root Chakra is all about grounding, safety, and belonging — our connection to the earth and to our bodies. In folklore, hibiscus is associated with vitality and sensuality, often used in love and protection spells across the world. Its deep crimson hue mirrors the chakra’s vibrant red energy. Cinnamon, warm and spicy, has been used since ancient times to promote circulation, stimulate inner fire, and draw in abundance. Together, they form a powerful base — both stabilizing and energising.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup strong hibiscus tea (infuse 1 heaped tsp hibiscus in a small cup of hot water for at least 10 mins, then refrigerate)
15ml (1 tbsp) cinnamon syrup
Sparkling water
Cinnamon stick, for garnish
To Make:
Pour the chilled hibiscus tea into a glass with ice. Add the cinnamon syrup and stir slowly to blend. Top with sparkling water, and give it one more gentle stir. Garnish with a cinnamon stick — let the grounding scent rise as you sip.
🟠 Sacral Chakra – Orange Blossom
Activating your playful nature
The Sacral Chakra governs creativity, sensuality, our inner child and emotional expression. Orange blossom, traditionally used in wedding ceremonies across the Mediterranean and Middle East, symbolizes innocence, joy, and fertility. In aromatherapy, it's known to lift the mood and awaken the senses. A dash of orange peel or zest brings brightness, activating the body’s natural creative flow and reminding us to play, flirt, and feel.
Ingredients:
15ml (1 tbsp) orange flower water with a teaspoon of honey or orange flower syrup (like Monin or Cortas)
Optional: dash of non-alcoholic orange bitters
Sparkling soda or orange-flavored mineral water
Orange slice, for garnish
To Make:
Add the orange blossom syrup to a glass filled with ice. Pour over your sparkling soda of choice. Stir gently to infuse the floral notes. Garnish with an orange slice and let yourself melt into a moment of sweetness and joy.
🟡 Solar Plexus Chakra – Ginger & Lime
Energising your extrovert nature
The Solar Plexus is your power center — the seat of confidence, personal will, and motivation. Ginger, with its fiery and invigorating properties, has been used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to stoke digestive and energetic fire (agni). It’s a root of courage. Lime, crisp and citrusy, adds a cleansing zing, known to lift mood and cut through stagnation. This combo calls you back to your core — bold, bright, and ready to move.
Ingredients:
15ml (1 tbsp) ginger syrup (like Ginger People or Monin)
Juice of 1/2 fresh lime or 30ml (1 oz) bottled lime juice
Sparkling mineral water or lime seltzer
Optional: lime zest or wheel for garnish
To Make:
Add the ginger syrup and lime juice to a shaker or directly to your glass. Mix well to awaken that zesty fire. Fill the glass with ice and top with sparkling water. Garnish with a twist of lime or a wheel for extra zing and sunshine.
💚 Heart Chakra – Rose Refresher
Opening to connection, compassion, and self-love
The Heart Chakra is the center of connection — where empathy, beauty, and love flow freely. Rose, revered across cultures from ancient Persia to India, is more than a symbol of romance — it’s a flower of emotional wisdom. Known to gently open the heart, rose invites us to listen with compassion, to speak with kindness, and to see the beauty in others and ourselves. Its scent alone can shift us into a state of receptivity and grace. This mocktail is a celebration of heart-led living — tender, bright, and boldly open.
Ingredients:
15ml (1 tbsp) rose syrup (or rose water + honey)
Lightly sparkling spring water
Optional: dried or fresh rose petals, mint for garnish
To Make:
Pour the rose syrup into your glass and fill with ice if desired. Top with sparkling spring water and stir gently. Garnish with a few dried rose petals or a fresh mint sprig. Inhale. Exhale. Let the heart open.
🔵 Throat Chakra – Tulsi, Mint & Lime Mojito
Clear, calm communication
The Throat Chakra is your voice — the energy center of self-expression, truth, and resonance. Holy basil (tulsi) is considered sacred in India, known as “The Incomparable One,” and used in daily prayer and tea rituals. It’s a gentle adaptogen, said to balance the nervous system and elevate spiritual clarity. Paired with cooling mint, which refreshes and clears the throat, and a spark of lime, this drink brings calm clarity to your communication.
Ingredients: (serves 1)
30ml (1 oz) fresh lime juice
15ml (1/2 oz) simple syrup
4–6 fresh mint leaves
2–3 fresh holy basil (tulsi) leaves (or a splash of tulsi tea if you can’t find fresh)
Sparkling water (plain or lime-flavored)
Ice
Optional: slice of cucumber or pinch of sea salt
To Make:
In your glass, gently muddle mint and holy basil with the lime juice and syrup — bruise them just enough to release their oils without breaking the leaves. Add ice, pour over sparkling water, and stir. Garnish with mint, basil, or a lime wheel. Sip slowly and speak your truth.
🟣 Third Eye Chakra – Blueberry Butterfly
Clear the mind, refresh the soul
The Third Eye Chakra governs intuition, perception, and inner vision. Blueberries, rich in antioxidants, have been used in folk healing to support eyesight and brain function — a natural match for the “inner eye.” Butterfly pea flower, with its mesmerizing indigo hue, has been used in Ayurvedic and Thai herbalism to enhance mental clarity and reduce anxiety. Together, they create a violet-hued tonic to awaken your insight and still the mental chatter.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon Blueberry jam
Splash of butterfly pea flower tea or lavender kombucha
Sparkling water
Garnish: borage flowers
To Make:
Add blueberry jam to a glass with ice. Top with sparkling water and gently swirl in the butterfly pea tea or kombucha — watch the drink shift in colour like an oracle’s gaze. Garnish with a sprig of lavender or floating blueberries and tune in.
⚪ Crown Chakra – Elderflower Awakener
Uplifting, ethereal, transcendent
The Crown Chakra connects us to spirit, to universal wisdom, to the divine. Elderflower, once known as “the tree of the faeries,” has long been associated with magic, protection, and transformation in European folklore. Delicate yet potent, it supports immune function and uplifts mood. Its light floral scent and flavor make it a fitting ally for this chakra — opening you gently to the unseen and reminding you of your innate connection to something greater.
Ingredients:
30ml (1 oz) elderflower cordial (Belvoir or Monin)
Optional: A few drops of CBD oil
Sparkling water or light tonic
Optional: tiny pinch of edible gold glitter
Garnish: lemon twist
To Make:
Pour elderflower cordial into a glass filled with ice. Add a few drops of your favourite CBD oil. Top with sparkling water or tonic, and give it a slow, intentional stir. Add your garnish and, if you dare, a whisper of gold shimmer. Sip in stillness and light.
