✨ Equipment You’ll Need to Make Your Flower Essences
To create high-quality vibrational flower essences, it helps to gather your tools in advance. Below is a simple guide to each piece of equipment, what it’s used for, and why it matters in the essence-making process.
Glass Containers
Choose clear, smooth glass with no cuts or facets. I prefer cocktail glasses because they create no shadows when sunlight passes through — ideal for sun infusion.
Avoid crystal or heavily cut glass, as these can distort the light and affect the purity of the essence.
A plain glass bowl is also suitable.
Pure Water
Use the purest water you can access.
Distilled water is ideal.
Natural spring water is also excellent, especially if you can gather it yourself.
This becomes the carrier for the plant’s vibrational imprint, so clarity and purity are essential.
Offering for the Plant Spirit
Before harvesting a flower, it’s customary to make a small offering. Options include:
Sacred tobacco
Dried corn
Fresh or dried flowers
Cacao beans (a beautiful option if you already work ceremonially with cacao)
Choose an offering that feels respectful and aligned with your practice.
Fine Strainer or Filter
After infusion, you’ll need to remove any petals or plant material.
I use empty tea bags because they act as an extremely fine filter, keeping the final essence clear.
Small Measuring Cups or Beakers
Useful for pouring and measuring your infused water during the dilution stages.
Accuracy here ensures the correct balance between essence, alcohol, and water.
Funnels
Have a few small funnels on hand to help decant liquids cleanly into narrow-necked bottles.
Scales
If you don’t have calibrated measuring cups, scales will help you measure precise 50:50 ratios of water and alcohol.
Accurate dilution is essential for creating shelf-stable essences.
Bottles & Droppers (Pipettes)
You will be creating three stages of essence, each stored in a different bottle:
100 ml — Mother Essence
30 ml — Stock Essence
15 ml — Dosage / Medicinal Essence (the one you take daily)
The essence is diluted three times, resulting in a final remedy that carries the vibrational intention of the plant without chemical interaction — ideal for those on medications.
Alcohol (40%)
Alcohol acts as a natural preservative.
I use 40% vodka because it maintains a strong 20% preservative level even after a 50:50 dilution with water.
Traditional Bach remedies used brandy, which is also fine — choose the spirit you feel most comfortable working with.
Labels & Waterproof Pen
Label each bottle immediately with:
The plant used
The stage (mother, stock, dosage)
The date of creation
Optional: place of harvest or any relevant notes
Clear labelling ensures that your remedies stay organised and traceable over time.
