War, Peace and the Path to Homo Luminous

The Kitchen Sink Question: Can One Person Influence Global War?

A few nights ago, the clatter of plates in the sink was punctuated by a question that stopped me in my tracks. My 15-year-old son, his voice thick with a mix of passion and heart-heavy exhaustion, asked me:

"What influence can I actually have on the wars happening in the world?"

As he grows, he is becoming aware of the world in new, raw ways. He is no longer protected by my "shield." He sees the news; he observes how politicians act—both locally (our Reform councillor being recently jailed for his years of controlling and coercive behaviour, and also accused of conspiracy to murder his wife) and globally. Take your pick of the Trump dramas; it is deeply challenging for him—and for me—to see such men lead the world into such disharmony. He felt hopeless, powerless, angry, and sad.

Now, I am not a "political" person. I generally avoid it because it hurts my soul to observe such atrocities. I get so dysregulated and angry at the lack of respect for nature, the rape of women, the destruction of land and communities, and the blatant promotion of fear-based thinking that some political parties thrive on.

But… there is so much good happening in our world, too. We are planting trees and medicine gardens, removing plastics from the oceans, and healing communities. We are rescuing women from domestic violence and teaching them how to take back their power. We are helping men returning from war to find peace again—many of whom endure severe PTSD—and returning land to the Indigenous people we once stole it from. These are the stories that rarely infiltrate our news.

The Myth of the "Bad" Human

This generalised negative storytelling leads us to believe we humans are bad at heart. But this is not the reality when you dive into the scientific research. In the book Humankind, Rutger Bregman explains this very eloquently. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to challenge the perception of a "war-torn" species.

There is truth to the idea that we have been warring ever since we became "civilised." When we were nomadic—wandering the earth with no boundaries and no sense of "I own this land"—we did not have such a need for war. There is no evidence that our ancestors from pre-Mesopotamian times experienced such threats. It was only when we settled and developed agriculture that we started needing to protect ourselves. Back then, we fought for arable land; today, we fight for oil.

But there is a shift happening. We are awakening. Perhaps it will take another 10,000 years to truly establish peace on earth, but I am hopeful. I have children; I want my future ancestors to experience abundance in ways I can only imagine. And there are practical ways we can assist in this evolution right now.

Evolving Our Energy: The Birth of Homo Luminous

My work with the Munay-Ki Rites is exactly this—it helps us individually evolve by receiving "downloads" or upgrades to the energy body. We are evolving into a new type of human called Homo Luminous. This new human is non-violent and lives in harmony as a caretaker rather than a destroyer of creatures, landscapes, and each other.

I grew up during the Cold War, when America and Russia were threatening to blow up the planet with nuclear bombs. In some ways, little has changed on the world stage. But so much has changed within my own energy body, heart, and mind that I experience life very differently now.

I remember when I first received the Bands of Power rite. Before that, I reacted to my parents like an angry teenager. I was constantly triggered by their behaviour—things I still disapprove of, like them using Roundup or chopping down trees. After the rite, I stopped reacting. I accepted them for who they were. I realised I couldn't change them, but I could rebalance the world in my own way: I became a gardener who grows everything organic and plants trees at every opportunity. I shifted from a wounded child consciousness to a grown-up consciousness who has the space to care for others.

Stepping into the Year of the Fire Horse

We are standing at a massive threshold. The astrologers are saying this Spring Equinox will help us all shift into the light, but we need a new way of being to hold that frequency. We often hear the word "collapse" regarding the old world order, but I prefer the ideas of Transform and Transcend.

This 13-moon cycle is particularly exciting because it is held within the Fire Horse Year. This has the potential to take us on a wild ride of personal and global transformation. I am literally the most excited I have ever been about my course, The Shaman’s Way, because the world is ripe for this medicine.

When I share these Rites, I watch people change. Their epigenetic wounds heal. They connect to a lineage of ancestors and remember why they are here: as Earthkeepers and creators. What is most amazing is the feedback I get—participants tell me how it affects their families, friends, and co-workers. As we shift our energy, people notice. They start to realign with our higher vibration. Kindness is contagious!

What the F*ck Can We Do? Practical Shamanism: How to Show Up in Service to Peace

Back to my son’s question while he was scrubbing the dishes... what can we do in the face of such huge powers that wish for nothing but personal gain and are willing to destroy everything without an inkling of how it impacts their own reality?

  • Remember, we are Human-KIND: Stop fearing others. Stop projecting the story that "people are out to get us." Most people are kind. Trust in the goodness within every being’s heart, and you will most likely experience the best in them.

  • Take Charge of Your Vibration: You know when someone is in a bad mood—you can feel it. But the opposite is equally true. Smiles and good feelings are contagious. I meditate and drink cacao every day to get my "vibes" ready to be a positive influence. How do you get ready to show up in the world?

  • Show Up in Service to Peace: Find where your heart beats the fastest. If you are aligned with plants, animals, or landscapes, your healing is needed there. Go and heal the land. If you love people, find ways to bring peace to their hearts. In shamanic terms, there is no hierarchy of what is "best" to do. All that matters is that you follow your heart and show up in service to this world’s shift toward harmony.

  • Upgrade Your Energy Field: If you feel called to this work, I offer two pathways.

    • The Shaman’s Way: A 13-moon (one year) group training that guides you through the rites within a shamanic circle of up to 8 people. We weave in the Mayan Traditional Medicine Wheel and teach you to become a Munay-Ki Master yourself. I have just a couple of places left for this Spring Equinox start.

    • 1-2-1 Pathway: If a group setting isn't right for you, we can work together privately over a period of time that suits your lifestyle, integrating the shifts with personal support.

We only have one life, and for most of us, that life lasts around 4,000 weeks. Let’s stop being victims of the news cycle and start being the HUMANKIND we were born to be. Let the peace and harmony ripple out from your own heart to all who wish to receive it.
