The Herbal Way: Knowledge, Craft & Practice

For anyone who wants to understand the body and learn how to support health naturally.

This welcoming, hands-on course explores how the body works, why it falls out of balance, and how familiar herbs can help restore wellbeing.

  • Each month focuses on a different body system, explained in simple, accessible terms and brought to life through practical medicine-making.

  • You’ll learn to create teas, tinctures, oils, ointments, salves, and more — building real skills you can use at home.

  • Blending ancient herbal wisdom with modern science, this course gives you the confidence to work safely with plants, to know when herbs are enough, and when to seek further support. By the end, you’ll have a home apothecary to be proud of — and plant allies to support a healthier, more resilient life.

  • Places are limited to 8 to ensure you receive adequate personal attention throughout the training.

  • This course is taught by Sorrell Robbins, a Medical Herbalist with over 30 years’ experience in clinical practice and teaching. Her work is grounded in both traditional and scientific plant knowledge and shaped by decades of real-life practice. Her teaching style is warm, playful, and refreshingly down-to-earth. Expect clear explanations, hands-on learning, and a space where curiosity is welcomed, confidence grows, and working safely with herbs feels both empowering and joyful.

The Flow of Our Days & Ongoing Access

Our days together run from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm, with a generous rhythm that allows for learning, making, and rest.

We pause for a one-hour lunch from 12.00–1.00 pm, which is included as part of the course. Lunch is lovingly prepared by Sorrell and offers a lived experience of herbs as food and food as medicine. Meals are vegan and gluten-free, and all allergies can be catered for. You are also very welcome to bring your own lunch or snacks if you prefer.

Each session begins by grounding ourselves in the knowledge — clear, accessible teaching that helps you understand the body and the plants we are working with. From there, we move into the practical heart of the day: creating herbal medicines, learning techniques you can use for life, and crafting remedies to build your own home apothecary.

Between sessions, your learning continues gently and flexibly. You’ll have access to an online course platform with additional recipes, suggested reading, recorded videos, and a downloadable workbook to support your ongoing exploration of herbal medicine. Access is lifetime, so you can return to the material whenever you wish, at your own pace.

And if life happens and you miss a session, you won’t miss out. All teachings are recorded and supported with written materials, so illness, family needs, or the unexpected won’t interrupt your learning. This course is designed to be practical, supportive, and accessible, allowing you to enjoy a lasting relationship with herbs that grows well beyond our time together.

The Venue

Our venue is a bespoke teaching space, thoughtfully designed for herbal learning and medicine-making. Set within a peaceful garden, our large log cabin offers a calm, clean, and well-equipped environment where study and practice flow naturally together.

Inside, there is a large communal worktable for hands-on making, alongside a projector and screen to support the more theoretical elements of the course. The space is arranged for comfort, ease, and practicality, allowing you to settle in and focus fully on the learning.

Just outside the cabin is our herb garden, which becomes part of the classroom. Here, we’ll harvest fresh herbs in season and explore simple cultivation techniques, grounding our studies in the living world of the plants themselves.

For those who wish to retreat while they learn, a small amount of accommodation is available on site for an additional cost. We have two private rooms — one double room and one room with two single beds, which may be shared or booked as a private space for individual use. Availability is limited, and accommodation can be arranged to suit your needs. Please enquire for further details.

The venue is easily accessible, with some on-site parking, free on-street parking nearby, and a council car park directly opposite. Margate is well connected by train, coach, and local bus routes, making travel straightforward whether you’re coming from nearby or further afield.

Throughout the day, refreshments are available, including filtered water and, of course, a generous selection of herbal teas to enjoy as we learn and work together.
