My Journey with Mama Cacao
About 7 years ago on a retreat in Avebury UK, which is said to be the heart chakra of Mama Earth, sitting with an indigenous shamanic teacher, I was introduced to Mama Cacao for the first time.
Mama Cacao was totally new to me, I had no idea she was even going to be a part of my retreat experience. On the 3rd day, I was handed a cup of Ceremonial cacao and invited to drink it. Then we were guided to relax and meditate with a drum healing ceremony where we listened to a medicine song as our indigenous guide drummed the heart beat rhythm to us for around 1 hour.
I was afraid at first, I had been to many ceremonies before with plant medicines and had purged abundantly every time. Not knowing this was a gentle medicine and that there would be no purging, I feared what may come, so only drank half a cup, about 16 grams. However - this was ample for my following experience!
The setting was cold and uncomfortable, no mats, or blankets or pillows available, and I lay down on a hard floor as invited. My body started to relax into the space with ease as I felt Mama Cacao melt through my muscles from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. I gently encouraged my body to go with this and found I could become comfortable in my body even in this small hard cold space.
I felt tears start to flow. With no understanding of why I was crying I allowed them to flow. Trusting the process. This part didn't last long, maybe 5 - 10 minutes. Then as the tears stopped, I started to feel my body-mind begin to fill up with such love and light, gratitude and grace, it was blissful.
After an hour, we went for a walk and sat with the sacred stones. There isn't much peace at Avebury, its a National Trust site, busy with tourists and dog walkers, sheep graze on the land and there is sheep shit everywhere! This was no problem - I felt so connected to the stones, a sense of oneness with nature, great spirit, the people and animals.
On returning home from my retreat this feeling of connection to spirit and bliss lasted 3 whole weeks. There was no fear in my animal body, no pain which I had become accustomed to experiencing daily following multiple car accidents. My young children offered the usual challenges of daily tantrums and waking me up at all hours of the night. I remained overflowing with love, patience and understanding. I was a powerhouse of a Mama!
I wondered, as a Medical Herbalist and Shamanic Practitioner having taken multiple trainings in plant medicine, how I had never come across this medicine before? I believe it was perfect timing, the right teacher, the right time, the right setting. And I was in love!
I knew from that moment I had to become a facilitator for Mama Cacao, to help her reach the people who needed her medicine and help others discover how it felt to be at peace, connected to spirit and overflowing with love. I could see that a world where people felt like this would be a beautiful world, helping Mama Earth to reach her highest potential by healing humanity's hearts.
I studied everything I could find on the subject of Cacao, the science, the history, and how it was used in ceremony. I worked with many Cacaoistas, each teaching me a different perspective of how they facilitated her medicine. I found a group of Mayan teachers from Guatemala who gave me the indigenous wisdom I needed to ground my learning in tradition. And most important of all - I opened my heart and mind, body and soul to Mama Cacao and let her guide me on this path of healing, until she guided me to share the pathway with you.

I am a Modern Medicine Woman, with formal qualifications in Herbal Medicine BSc(Hons), Hypnotherapy, Hypnobirthing, Aromatherapy, Massage, Reiki & Seichem Healing. I am also a Cacaoista and have been working with Plant Spirit Medicine and training in Shamanism for over 27 years. I have trained with Doctors and Herbalists from India, Africa, Russia and Europe, plus Romany Gypsy shamans, Ecuadorian, Guatemalan and Peruvian shamans, Native American Medicine Women, British Shamans, Druids and Wicca Witches. I am also trained as a professional teacher, qualified to teach at a Master's Degree University level and have created and taught many courses from Advanced Masters to absolute beginners.
During this Cacaoista training, including 8 weeks of transformative teachings, I will hold space and guide you, helping you to transform yourself through shamanic processes, to evolve into a Cacaoista so that you too can share this powerful rainbow medicine with the world.
